Our Hearts Overflow

God’s blessings really do come pressed down, shaken together and overflowing. Yesterday an old employee stopped by. Well, stopped by is rather relative term. He was on his way back to New Mexico from Maryland and “stopped by” Birmingham. We haven’t seen this guy in 9 years. When he left, he was an alcoholic. Today, he has been sober for two years. We couldn’t be prouder of our friend. He came to tell us he loves us, to thank us for believing in him and to apologize for mistakes he made. If he only knew how much we love him. Our hearts overflow.
We shared a meal together and tried our best to catch up on nine years in a few hours. Really, it is unbelievable. We never thought we would see him again. We have looked for him several times with only dead ends. And God just sent him to us to encourage us, to bless us and to show us that God can do anything.
He is courageous to come ask for forgiveness for things we don’t even remember. His encouragement reminds us that investing in people really does matter. He is thoughtful to sacrifice his time to come see us. He blesses us to describe GKC as family.
My favorite thing he said, “I know it hasn’t been easy, but I don’t see how y’all do what you do, have such a great staff, help so many people, well… I guess you guys said it, it is JESUS.”
Whatever we do, wherever we work, whomever we work beside, let’s not grow weary of loving deeply, listening intently, being fully present and sacrificing everything to put others above ourselves. Who knows what God may do in the life of another person that we choose to love. Who knows what He might do in us!
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Luke 6:38
