 GKC News

Two GKC kids, Johnathan Dopson and Samantha Dopson accepted Christ as Savior and Lord this month. We had the privilege of celebrating with them as they were baptized in their home church of Clanton, AL, at the end of October. God is doing a mighty work in this community as 28 people have been saved at this sweet church in the past month. Pray for these children as they walk with the Lord and follow Him as He leads.

NEW CHRIST FOLLOWERS

Families are hungry right here in Birmingham, AL. How can we not help them? God has provided an amazing quality of food for an economical price through Angel Food Ministries. Asbury United Methodist Church and Chelsea Community Church are serving as our host sites for food pick up. Anyone can sponsor a box of food for $30 that will feed a family of four for one week. We then work with volunteers to help distribute these food boxes to needy families in our community every third Saturday of the month. Thanks to many food box sponsors, customers, families and our friends at Old Navy Eastwood, God will feed over 250 individuals for one week through this outreach for October 2009. If your family would like to help distribute food boxes once a month, please call us at 205-390-2211. FEED THE HUNGRY

The Lakeshore Foundation sponsored a parade for injured military personnel. Local antique car owners donated their time and car usage to provide these heroes a chance to be recognized and encouraged through the streets of Homewood, AL. Many people lined the streets to share support and appreciation for the sacrifice our military continues to make for all of us. Freedom is costly and we thank all our troops who risk their lives to protect our great country. God Bless America.

THANK YOU TO OUR AMERICAN HEROES

Another year, a great staff, good food amd fun times. We celebrated our company anniversary despite the raining weather outside. Many thought the celebration was cancelled due to the storms, but those who came had a great time visiting and sharing a delicious meal together. A big thank you to Oliver and Zonia Waltman for the delicious ribs, sausage and chicken. Let the good times roll!!

ANNUAL COMPANY FIESTA

In March 2009, State Farm Agent Michael O'Neal coordinated a mission effort to San Jose, Costa Rica, with the Costa Rican ministry Conexion. God allowed four members of the GKC family to accompany the team on this outreach along with another State Farm Agent Craig Dorris and his family, State Farm employee Steve Barlow and his daughter, and two other men from Birmingham, AL. God allowed us to more than double the size of a home for a humble, gracious family of five previously living in a 400 square foot area, paint two rooms of a daycare center, play with children in two villages and worship with locals in a house church. Please pray for Conexion as they continue to minister to the people of Costa Rica. May God help us live to love people with the love of Christ.

COSTA RICA

Donating hair, thanks to customers Denae Whatley and Carlye Stringfellow. Caryle provided the garage, chair, broom and dust pan. Denae provided the scissors, comb and skill. The hair was bagged and given to Children's Hospital. If you have 10" you can drop off hair for Locks for Love and if you have highlights the Pantene program will take 8". Place the first rubberband where you want to cut right above, braid and then the last rubber band. Once the lock is cut, place in a ziplock bag and drop at the front desk at Children's Hospital. Pretty simple to share the love.

LOCKS FOR LOVE

Our Human Resource Manager, Tim Bower, helped lead a group of college students into the country of Zambia. The Zambia team learned that if we will pray for elephants that God will send them to us. They had visited a local game park and were disappointed as they prepared to leave and had not seen any elephants. Just when they were leaving and had given up, God brought hundreds of elephants toward them. They also saw joy and happiness in a people group who have very little resources and the majority affected by the AIDS epidemic. See below the huts these people reside in compared to where we have the opportunity to live here in America. What a privilege to meet and live life with people all over the world.

ZAMBIA

Four of us from the immediate GKC family, jointly with ten of our customers and additional new friends, were given the opportunity to work alongside a team of seven native Africans ministering to a rural community in Swaziland. God enabled us to lead a soccer camp for the boys, work a primitive medical clinic and live life with the people. Each of us showed up and allowed God to use our lives as He wished. For example, Brian Labello had the privilege to teach the Bible during the boy's soccer camp. God is mighty and powerful like the lion and He will accomplish His purposes. Isaiah 32:20 "How blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free." May God use all of us to sow seeds for Him wherever we are and may we hold loosely to our possessions and let our "stuff" roam free. As in Africa, the cattle roaming free is a visual picture that nothing is truely ours and we must hold tightly to God as He is in control.

SWAZILAND

In March 2008, God blessed our company with the opportunity to send ten representatives from Grace Klein on a mission trip to Capetown, South Africa. We were able to help re-build Redhill, a community that was destroyed by fire just a month before our arrival. The challenges we faced included lack of material and tools as well as time restraints. All of us learned to appreciate our power tools and accessibility to supply stores so readily available in the States. God gave us the privilege to partner with local missionaries already at work so that we might encourage them as well as learn from their strong faith and perseverance.

Community Involvement
We enjoy participating in local events to support our community. We had a blast throwing cups in 2008 Christmas Parades in Alabaster and Chelsea. Our employees and their kids love to participate in the community parades. Thanks to April Bower we even won the commercial entry float at the Alabaster parade. She painted beautiful murals that we will use again next year. In June 2008, we sponsored the Oak Mountain 12 year old All Stars. A son of one of our customers was one of the players on the All Star team. Way to go William! We also had the privilege of helping with Compassion International sponsorships at the Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman concert in October 2008. In February 2009 we participated in the Mercedes Half-Marathon with customers Tamara Shadinger and Bo Hardy.

Our company models its day-to-day operations based on Colossians 3:23 "And whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, and not for men." We strive to serve our customers, however we also take opportunities within the local area and across the country to help those with special needs. We partner with One Way Ministries throughout the year to provide skilled labor in building and repairing homes as a way for us to serve Christ.

The pictures below are from our mission trip to South Africa in 2007. God has placed a dream in our hearts to send our people to South Africa and to all the world to share the hope of our heavenly Father. We want people to meet and know the Jesus who loves us and died for us so that in turn we might live for Him. If you would like to support this cause, please contact One Way Ministries.

We also participate in Compassion International'schild sponsorship program. The child we sponsor is named Samuel Pineda Galloso. He's a great little boy from Mexico with a bright future ahead of him. He turned 6 years old on January 20, 2008. We have different people on our staff take time to write him a letter every few months. We have received a few letters from him. His favorite color is yellow. He loves to play ball with his neighbor friends. He likes to eat pasta with chicken.

Another couple of organizations that we are happy to be working with are the King's Ranch and Hannah Homes and the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranches which both provide homes to youth who have found themselves in desperate situations. If you would like more information on these groups or would like to get involved yourself, just click on the respective link above.

The pictures below are from our mission trips to Arizona where we help to build homes for the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation.

 Customer Highlight of the Month

Robbins Family

Chris and Erin Robbins have been blessed with ten years of marriage and two kids, Anna (5) and Clay (2). They seek to make the Gospel known in Birmingham and around the world through serving locally and globally with their small group at church. The small group has been blessed with weekly opportunities to show the love of Christ, by helping meet the needs of the Hispanic community at a local, low-income apartment complex, as well as spreading the Gospel on overseas mission trips to Venezuela and Peru. God has provided generous donors to Christ's ministry in their family, which has enabled their small group to provide meals to the local Hispanic community each week, serve the Hispanic community with a cook-out, as well as provide large bags of food during Christmas. God continues to grow a love in their hearts for the Hispanic community, both local and global. Please pray for the Robbins family for a renewed vision for how God would like to use their family and small group to make disciples of all nations.

Chris and Erin Robbins

Psalms 67 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

 Employee of the Month

Matt Foshee

Resized image

Grace Klein Construction, Inc. would like to recognize Matt Foshee as employee of the month. Matt has been a member of the GKC family for almost 7 months and he has made a huge impact to the team. Matt will do whatever it takes to make sure tasks are accomplished in a timely manner. It is always hard to know where Matt is at any given time as his responsibilities are numerous here at GKC. One day he might be on a jobsite and the next day he might be picking up or delivering donations to families in need. Matt also recently received his CDL Liscense, which allows him to help distribute materials to our jobsites. Matt remains flexible with his schedule as he knows there are so many things that need to get done in a day and he knows it takes the efforts of everyone on the team. He is also point man, coordinator, and customer advocate for the Resco America program with Farmer's property owners. Matt is a friend to all, serves the customer, and lives a life of kindness and humility. He desires to live a life pleasing to Christ that gives all glory to our Heavenly Father. Thanks Matt for all your efforts and dedication to GKC and its mission. Keep up the great work.
